 Terms & Conditions

INTRODUCTION

Children in years 3 & 4 will be offered one free session. The class is used for assessments to establish which is the best group for each child.
Children in year 5 may need to take a paid assessment before they join a class.

1. REGISTRATION

One months (non-refundable or transferable) fee plus one weeks security deposit is payable by the start date.

2. TUITION CLASSES

All children follow the same scheme of work. However, the lower your child starts on the scheme, the more time is needed to bridge the gap. (Children can be in different groups for different subjects).

Group 1:

Tutor: Joyce

Children in this group reached the upper quarter score in the assessment. They are working usually at or above expected level at school.

Tuition: 1 hour maths + 1 hour English.

Children at the lower section of this group may need catch-up sessions.

Group 1 Previous 11+ Result: 100 pass and entry in to grammar and or independent schools.

Group 2:

Tutor: Joyce

Children in this group reached the middle 2 quarters score in the assessment. They are normally working at the lower score of expected levels or just below expected levels in school.

Tuition: 2 Hours Maths and/or  2 hours English + Holiday Boosters or 1-2-1.

Group 2 Previous 11+ Results

  • If children remain at group 2 levels, the outcome varies:
  • Children in the top part of the mid quartile may reach Greenshaw and/or one or more of the grammar schools cut off score
  • Girls in catchment area may reach the school’s score if they are in the mid quartile range.
  • Girls in the out of catchment the areas may pass the selectability test but are unlikely to score high enough to gain an 11+ place.

Group 3:

Tutor: Yvette

Children in this group reached the lower quarter score in the assessment. They are normally working at the lower expected levels.

Tuition: 2 Hours Maths and/or  2 hours English + Holiday Boosters + 1-2-1.

Group 3 Previous 11+ Results

Children in this group are not working at 11+ targets. If they remain at this level they will not pass the selectability test.

Parents may believe that starting tuition in year 3 or year 4 is the answer to reaching 11+ targets but this is not necessarily the case. If your child is getting the same amount of tuition as children in higher groups, Your child will make progress but is unlikely to sufficiently bridge the gap.

3. TUITION FEE

The tuition fee is £20 per hour. However, fees are standardise over 50 weeks and paid on a monthly basis.

A week's security deposit is paid per class. This fee is deducted from the child's final lesson.

1 hour per week monthly standardised fee is £83

2 hours per week monthly standardised fee is £166

After initial payment, the tuition fee is payable on the 1st of each month by standing order.

Following the first month's non refundable or transferable fee, a weeks’ notice is requested to terminate tuition or your deposit will be used in lieu of notice.
Group fees are standardised to cover 50 weeks a year. Each month, regardless of the number of weeks tuition, the same monthly group fee is paid.
Should your child not complete each yearly cycle, fees will be calculated using the hourly £20 rate. Likewise, when a full month is not taken, fees are also worked out at the hourly rate.

4. TUITION PERIOD:

Tuition runs for 50 weeks a year: two weeks off at Christmas.  Please note that the time allocated to students cannot be given to another student.  Therefore, all missed lessons are charged. Missed work will be emailed or posted to parents.  Some children may need additional class(es) to understand the missed lesson.  This may need to be done in booster sessions or 1:1 lessons.  Lessons may have to be suspended if too many classes are missed.

We understand (and expect) that you may take a holiday so will work around your child's time away.  You are responsible for arranging 1:1 or catch up lessons if your child is away.

5. TERMINATION OF TUITION:

At Tuition Tutors, we strive to help each child reach their full potential.  We recognise that teaching styles and methods vary.  Should you feel that you wish to pursue a different tuition option after the registration period, please let use know. Any outstanding fees will be returned within 4 weeks.

We may terminate tuition if:

     a.   Behaviour is disruptive or rude.

     b.  There is a conflict with our recommendations for your child.

     c.  Your child falls below their group level and cannot make up session (on 1:1) or you do not wish for him/her to move to a lower group.

6. MATERIALS, BOOKS AND RESOURCES

In addition to photocopied materials, (some remain the property of Educational Resources) and books, you will be required to purchase relevant book and papers as recommended by us at the appropriate time. It is our policy not to recommend books and papers for lessons your child is not being tutored in.  If you decide to work on books and papers not recommended by the tutor, help can only be given when a separate 1:1 session is booked. Tutors will not enter in communication about 11+ materials whilst children are in group 2 or group 3.

7. HOMEWORK DIARY

Homework will be given each week via a diary.  The diary may be used for communication between yourself and the tutor. Children are expected to complete homework (some of which may need to be marked by you) before each session.  Failure to do so may result in exclusion from group lessons until they catch up.

8. FEEDBACK

Academic feedback is given to parents as and when tutors need to draw your attention to a matter.  It is not practical for parents with children in group sessions to speak to the tutor weekly. Formal assessments are done once a term.  Parents are advised of their child's progress.

9. ASSESSMENT

Children are formally assessed toward the end of each term.  The result will determine if children move up group, stay where they are or move down.  Teacher assessment is ongoing.  Children may be directed to change groups earlier if tutors deem it necessary.

10. ESSENTIAL CLASS RESOURCES

Your child will need (and should bring to every class) the following items:

  1. A notebook (homework diary) to record homework.
  2. A ring binder and 10 dividers that can be written on.
  3. 4+ highlighters
  4. 2 pencils
  5. Rubber
  6. Rule
  7. Pens (red, blue, green)

11. CLASS DAY AND TIME

Please note the day and time of each year group.  Children will be expected to change class in the appropriate year.

12. BOOSTER (Focus On) CLASSES

Booster Classes run over the holiday period for children in groups 2 and 3.  These classes are not compulsory but are recommended to help bridge the gap.  However, attending these classes does not guarantee that your child will reach the required 11+ group level.

13. GUARANTEE

While we are sure that all children will make progress, tutors cannot guarantee the outcome of any tests taken as the result of tuition given.  We cannot guarantee that your chill will pass and or gain entrance to a grammar/independent school as a result of tuition.

14. Your child’s current NC level suggest that s/he may not meet 11+ group. _______

1:1 tuition is recommended for Maths : Comprehension : Writing : Spelling, Vocabulary.

15. We reserve the right to amend our terms and conditions.
